Colon cleansing has been around for hundreds of years. It’s used to improve overall health and clean waste materials out of the anus to prevent constipation. Colon cleansing is done by inserting a speculum into the anus and spraying warm water up into the colon to clean it out. The process is only mildly uncomfortable, and should be performed by a licensed colon hydrotherapist.
Colon cleansing should be done about 4 times per year for good bowel health. A healthy stool is light brown and will float and pass easily. If your stools do not have these characteristics, it may be time for a colon cleanse. After a few years of regular cleanses, you will find that you do not need them as often as your bowel health improves.
The most common side effects from colon cleansing are nausea and fatigue. It’s important not to eat prior to the colon cleanse. Be sure to take probiotics afterward to replace any good bacteria that was lost during the cleanse. Ask your doctor before colon cleansing if you have Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative colitis, or any other digestive disorder. Avoid a colon cleanse if you are pregnant.
